Aftermath of Earthquake: Cleaning the debris at damaged Mandalay University

Cleaning of rubble and debris are undertaking at the main building of Mandalay University which was severely damaged by powerful earthquake struck on March 28.

Mandalay is one of the hard-hit areas due to the recent earthquake, causing extensive infrastructure damages.

The earthquake has caused major damage to the historic Mandalay University, destroying its main building, U Razak Hall and teachers’ and students’ hostels, Inwa Hall, convocation hall, library and staff housing.

In addition, the aftermath fire has engulfed the entire main building of the university, and five people were reported death.

A total of 260 volunteers from the Military and Mandalay City Development Committee are participating in the cleaning tasks starting from April 1st.

Director, Tin Soe, Mandalay City Development Committee, said " We started cleaning tasks of rubble and debris at the main building and U Razak Hall on April 1st in collaboration with Tatmadawmen. Strenuous efforts of the volunteers along with the mechanical assistance of Mandalay City Development Committee, debris from U Razak Hall was completely removed on that day."

After completion of the cleaning tasks, rehabilitation process will be conducted to restore original style.
