




Cyclone ‘MOCHA’ hit Myanmar with heavy rain and strong winds on the 14th of May, leaving loss and damage. In Nay Pyi Taw council area, the Cyclone had damaged 12 houses, 3 religious buildings, 1 monastery, 3 schools, 1 airport lounge, 8 street lamp posts, 1 transformer and 1 brick wall in 44 villages and wards.
The strong winds had damaged 2 houses, 1 school, 2 departmental buildings in 5 villages and wards in Chin State and 1 house, 3 communication towers, 1 street lamp post, 3 brick walls in 7 villages and wards in Sagaing Region and 113 houses, 2 communication towers, 1 street lamp post and 1 billboard were destroyed in 72 villages and wards in Bago Region.
Also, 2 houses, 9 street lamp posts, 3 brick walls and 78 farms in 14 villages and wards in Magway Region were damaged by the storm. The strong winds also destroyed 4 religious buildings in Mandalay Region. In Rakhine State, 2 local residents were dead and 13 people were injured, and 588 houses in 185 villages and wards, 3 religious buildings, 8 monasteries, 25 schools, 9 hospitals and clinics, 1 market, 1 communication tower, 7 street lamp posts, 1 transformer and 26 departmental buildings were damaged.
In Yangon Region, 15 houses in 35 villages and wards, 1 monastery, 4 schools, 1 communication tower, 36 street lamp posts, 6 departmental buildings, 1 transformer and 1 football stadium were damaged. In Ayeyawaddy Region, 131 houses in 114 villages and wards were damaged and 1 local resident was dead.
Also 1 religious building, 5 monasteries, 32 schools, 5 hospitals and clinics, 9 street lamp posts and 3 departmental buildings were destroyed. Many volunteers’ organizations and relevant officials have been carrying out research and rescue operations in the areas affected by the storm ‘MOCHA’ in regions and states.
