AFC U-17 Asian Cup: Myanmar Qualifies for AFC U-17 Asian Cup

Myanmar’s U-17 men’s football team has qualified for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup after a 2-2 draw with Syria in their Group G qualifying final at Thuwunna Stadium on Sunday evening.

Myanmar opened the scoring through Nyi Nyi Thant in the 10th minute, and Syria equalized with a goal from Ahmad Alfaraj in the 15th minute. At the 34th minute, Ant Htoo Paing scored Myanmar’s second goal, which was later leveled by Odey Alfashtaki in the 85th minute.

The team finished top of their group with 10 points, having defeated Afghanistan 3-1, Nepal 4-0, Oman 2-0, and drawn with Syria 2-2. With this result, Myanmar secured qualification, joining nine other AFC sides already qualified through the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Tajikistan, UAE, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan.

This marks Myanmar’s return to the AFC U-17 Asian Cup after 19 years. The 2026 finals will be held in Saudi Arabia from 7 to 24 May. Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing awarded the Myanmar U-17 football team a cash prize of 100 million kyats in recognition of their achievement in the qualifiers.
