Heavy rain and snow hit the northeastern United States Tuesday, disrupting flights and causing power outages, as extreme weather gripped both American coasts. The "double whammy," as the National Weather Service (NWS) called it is the latest in an unusual series of weather fronts to have rocked the country simultaneously.

Footages show the result of heavy rains from a winter storm in Oceanside, California that triggered a landslide.  Residents were evacuated from homes overlooking the Pacific Ocean coastline on Buena Vista. The parade of winter storms that have pummeled California have caused hundreds of millions of dollars of damage as they washed out communities, brought down power lines and caused landslides and more than 20 people have died.
