The call to prayer echoed from the Al Ihsan Mosque in Lintang Village on December 12 as Muslim worshippers in Indonesia’s Aceh province gathered for their first congregational Friday prayers since devastating flash floods struck the area two weeks earlier.

The floods, which claimed more than 1,000 lives, caused widespread destruction across villages, damaging homes, mosques and infrastructure. At Al Ihsan Mosque, traces of the disaster remained visible, with flood mud still surrounding the building as residents returned for communal worship. The resumption of Friday prayers marked a symbolic step toward normalcy for the affected community.
