




A pilot project to verify the ground population census for the accuracy of basic voter lists was launched at the election sub-commission office in Nay Pyi Taw Oattara Thiri township on Monday.
At the ceremony, Chairman of Union Election Commission U Thein Soe said the UEC is making preparations for holding multi-party democracy general election in line with 2008 Constitution that is one of the 5 future work programs set by the State Administration Council. He highlighted that in preparation for collecting current voter lists, the township-wise basic voter lists are being collected base on household list form (66/6) of the Ministry of Immigration and Population to get correct voter lists.
Out of 15 regions and states including Union territory, the basic voter lists have been collected in Taninthayi region, Mon state, Ayeyawady region and Union Territory and the process will be completed soon in remaining 11 regions and states. The inspection of the basic voter lists will be carried out in collaboration with officials from the General Administrative Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration and Population.
He said that all service personnel must work together for the upcoming multi-party democracy general election to be free, fair and justice. As the pilot project for the voter lists, the population census that have been complied in advance will be scrutinized by officials from the UEC, the Ministry of Immigration and Population as well as ward and village administrative bodies. The region, district and township lists will be checked by applying computerized system.
