$858B defense bill heading to Biden's desk

An $858 billion defense authorization bill is headed to President Joe Biden's desk for his signature after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi enrolled the legislation at the U.S. Capitol Thursday. The record spending authorization is $45 billion more than President Joe Biden recommended.

It passed the U.S. House on a bipartisan basis 350-80 earlier this month, and then passed the U.S. Senate by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 83-11. The legislation includes a 4.6% pay increase for the U.S. troops. It funds the procurement of new weapons systems for the U.S. military.
