80 people register as candidates in Iran presidential election

Iran's interior ministry said 80 people filed their candidacy before the deadline on Monday for 28thJune election, which was called after Raisi died in a helicopter crash on 19th May.

Iran's parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf is among those who registered. The other candidates include former parliamentary speaker Ali Larijani and former first vice-president Eshaq Jahangiri.Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also signed up to run in the election.A final candidate list is expected next Tuesday, after the applicants are vetted by the Guardian Council, which consists of Islamic jurists and other members appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
