First, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister U Than Swe delivered an anniversary commemorative speech.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister U Than Swe stated that the event was organized to commemorate the ministry’s objectives and vision, as well as to reflect on its proud history and traditions. He noted that while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been established for 78 years, Myanmar has practiced diplomacy to safeguard national interests since the era of ancient kings.
Since gaining independence, successive governments have adhered to an independent, active, and non-aligned foreign policy, with principles such as independence, non-alignment, and peaceful coexistence forming the essence of Myanmar’s foreign policy, which he said should be viewed with pride.
He further stated that since independence, Myanmar has actively engaged in international relations and participated with dignity in international and regional organizations, fulfilling its responsibilities as a respected member of the global community.
The primary duty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he emphasized, is to protect and promote the interests of the nation and its people through diplomatic means in line with the state’s foreign policy, while also supporting the realization of the country’s political, economic, and social goals. He stressed that the ministry must strive to successfully implement the government’s tasks, and the efficiency and capability of each staff member are key to achieving this.
Following this, awards were presented to staff who excelled in training courses conducted at the Civil Service Academy (Upper Myanmar and Lower Myanmar), as well as to winners of the December 2024 sports competitions held within the Ministry. To honor the 78th anniversary of the Ministry, special awards (10 prizes) and grand prizes (68 prizes), including lucky draws, were conducted, making the ceremony lively and vibrant.
