










The 77th Anniversary celebration of the Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) of the Ministry of Information, the Myanmar's first media and one of the oldest departments, was held at the MRTV office in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkone on Wednesday with an address by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min AungHlaing.
The Ceremony began with a song titled “Sein Yatu Ahla Mahn Htar Wara Myanma Athan” and screening the 77th Anniversary of the Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV) documentary. In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted history and efforts of the MRTV for the public. He also praised the teamwork of the MRTV officials and staff. The State Administration Council has been serving the state duties for 2 years now according to the 2008 constitution. The Senior General also stressed the efforts of the State Administration Council for peace in the country.
Also, he called on concerned officials to help the public including young people to have the right thinking and high level of knowledge for eternal peace of the nation and socio-economic development of the people. The new generation of MRTV employees must continue to fulfill their historical responsibilities, he added. After his address, the Senior General presented the cash award of 7.7 million Kyats to the Union Minister for Information for organizing the 10th ASEAN Quiz (Regional Level) competition in a grand manner and the “Tu Shin Hnwal Pyaw Gita Pwal Taw” Season-2 in commemoration of the 75th Diamond Jubilee Independence Day.
Also, the Union Minister presented the Senior General with a commemorative medal and gift of the 77th Anniversary of the Myanma Radio and Television. And, the Senior General enjoyed entertainment staged by staff of the MRTV. He also ceremonially opened the News Channel Studio and visited convergence News Room, transmission rooms of MRTV HD and MRTV News, Master Control Room, MRTV HD News Studio, MRTV News studio, Radio Tape Library, Radio News Room and Auditorium.
It’s learnt that the Myanma Radio and Television was established on February 15, 1946 under the name "Burma Broadcasting Service-BBS". On March 16, 1972, the name was changed to the Department of Information and Broadcasting. It was renamed as the Myanmar Television and Radio Department – MTRD on the 24th of January in 1991. On November 22, 1997, the name was changed to the Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV).
