77 pct of China's buses go clean energy

China's green travel drive has replaced 77 percent of the country's buses in urban areas with clean energy vehicles, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Among the 703,000 buses running in Chinese cities, more than 540,000 are driven by new energy, the ministry said during the launching ceremony of a campaign to advocate green travel.

The campaign was jointly sponsored by five ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security. It marked the beginning of the 2023 nationwide publicity month for green travel and publicity week for public transit.

The ministry also said that 54 cities have launched urban rail transit networks, with a total mileage of more than 9,700 kilometers. The urban public transport handles more than 54.7 billion passenger trips in total.
