71st Anniversary: Chin National Day Celebrated In Yangon

Chin nationals across the country celebrated the 71st Anniversary of Chin National Day on Wednesday. Also, All Chin Society (Yangon) celebrated the Chin National Day. 

The 71st anniversary of the Chin National Day was held in Yangon to get the Chin nationals come to memorize their history and extend culture and tradition to the new generation.

On February 20 in 1948, Chin National Day was designated after holding a people’s conference in Falam Township. Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and other invited guests attended at the ceremony. The Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor read out the message sent by President U Win Myint on the occasion of the 71st Anniversary of Chin National Day.

Chairman, Organizing Committee, Hung Saw said “There are 53 Chin tribes. But we celebrate our National Day with the theme “All for One” aiming to gather and meet all chin nationals in one place to promote friendship through culture and tradition. We’re delighted about the celebration here in Yangon.” 

Vice President U Henry Van Thio was recognized as Chin Person of the Year 2018 by All Chin Society Yangon at the ceremony. Honorable awards were also presented to all Chin outstanding people in all sectors at the ceremony.

Attendee (Kang Tribe), Htang Hleh said “I’m from Mindat Township. For now, I’m staying in Yangon with my daughter. Now, I am 74 years old - I always attend Chin Nation Day celebration every year wherever I am as I want to honor. I’d like to urge the next generation of Chin nationals to esteem Chin Nation Day like I do.”

Attendee ( Siyin Tribe), Han Chan Mon said “I volunteered for this celebration. As Siyin tribe, we’d play song and dance performance. I would to invite all people whether chin nationals or not to observe our culture and tradition through this celebration here. Also thanks for giving a chance to organize our National day here.”

Entertainment programs including Chin culture and model show, musical performance by famous Chin singers, Chin traditional wrestling sport and lucky draw programs were also featured at this 71st Anniversary of Chin National Day.
