7 October attack second anniversary

On the two-year anniversary of Hamas’ large-scale terror attack on Israel, Secretary-General António Guterres on 7 October issued a statement saying the recent proposal by United States President Donald Trump “presents an opportunity that must be seized to bring this tragic conflict to an end.”

Reading the statement, his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, “two years ago today, “Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups launched an abhorrent large-scale terror attack on Israel,” adding that two years later “hostages remain captive in Gaza in deplorable conditions.”

In the statement, the Secretary-General said he had met with hostage families and survivors, “who shared their unbearable pain” with him. He said, “Release the hostages, unconditionally and immediately. End the suffering for all. Put an end to the hostilities in Gaza, in Israel and the region right now.”
