5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting: Myanmar delegation attends the meeting in Bangkok

Myanmar delegation led by the State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya TunOo arrived back in Myanmar on January 18th after attending the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN) and related meetings with Dialogue Partners in Bangkok.

On January 16th, Thailand Prime Minister PaetongtarnShinawatra inaugurated the 5th ADGMIN at Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel. In her opening remarks, she highlighted concerns over online fraud, fake news, misinformation and the need for regional cooperation.

The two-day meeting focused on ASEAN's digital development, collaboration for a secure, innovative and inclusive digital future and addressing regional challenges. Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister General Mya TunOo also participated in discussions, emphasizing key issues such as combating rising online fraud, building trust in digital services, and ensuring that digital connectivity efforts are supported by digital literacy programs for meaningful use of digital services.

The meeting also reviewed successful projects implementation in 2024, approved upcoming projects in 2025 and funding, in addition to discussing cooperation on combating online scams, promoting cyber security and advancing AI development.

The ASEAN Ministers also held separate meetings with Dialogue Partners from China, Japan, South Korea, India, the United States and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and adopted the Bangkok Digital Declaration.

During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister joined the ASEAN Digital Awards 2025 ceremony and presented prizes to the awardees. On January 15, the China-ASEAN Digital Ecosystem Cooperation Forum was held at Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister attended the forum and discussed the opportunities and challenges of new technologies and ways to jointly address these challenges. The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister also met with the Thailand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Digital Economy and Society and Vietnamese Minister for Information and Communications on separate occasions on January 16th and 17th. During these meetings, they discussed matters on information exchange and technological cooperation.
