5.9 quake kills 3, injures 816 in Iran

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake killed three people and injured 816 others in rural areas in West Azerbaijan province, Iran's state TV reported. The late earthquake, late on Saturday, damaged buildings in many villages.

Rescue teams rushed to the area shortly afterwards.Iran's Red Crescent society has set up 18 temporary shelters and heating devices were distributed to people.Iran lies on major seismic faults and experiences one earthquake a day on average.
