5 people killed and 17 injured when tree fell

Five persons were killed and 17 others injured when a tree fell onto a bus near the Liberty Roundabout in Kollupitiya of Sri Lanka on Saturday. A bus met with accident when a massive tree on the side of the road fell on the bus while it stopped under the tree to board a large number of passengers.

The fire service department, the Colombo municipal council, the air force, the army and the police promptly mobilized into action to rescue the passengers trapped inside the bus. All the injured passengers were immediately hospitalized.

Sri Lanka President, the President’s Secretary has ordered the transport ministry and the Sri Lanka transport board to provide financial contribution amounting to 500,000 rupees to the family members of each persons killed in the accident.
