The 3rd Monsoon Tree Planting Ceremony 2023 was held at No.13 Yan Aung Myin forest reserve in Lewe Township in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday and Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the ceremony and planted Gantgaw tree.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister said that 2,520 saplings of 15 kinds of wood will be planted in the event. According to weather forecasts, it is known that El Nino will be faced from September 2023 to March 2024.
According to the previous experiences, drought and hot dry can happen and it needs to make preparations in respective sectors to resist heat and to have no water shortage.
Trees are being planted in cooperation with relevant Ministries to be green along the ASEAN highways that are built in Myanmar, Yangon-Mandalay expressway and railways.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the majority of the nation population lives in rural areas and he stressed on establishing rural firewood plantations, continuously planting suitable shady trees and wind trees in villages across the nation, conservation of forests on hills, mountain ranges and along rivers and establishing mangrove forests.
He emphasized on establishing forests and conserving greening landscapes in the respective urban and rural areas across the nation including Nay Pyi Taw Council area and called on conservation of forests, trees and forest ecosystem that are essential for sustainable development of the nation, food sufficiency, lessening climate change and prevention of natural disasters.
After that, the Prime Minister planted gantgaw tree at the designated place. The SAC Vice Chairman, Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win, Secretary of the SAC, Joint Secretary, Council members, Union level persons and Union Ministers, invitees, departmental staffs, students and officials planted saplings simultaneously.
Later, the Prime Minister and party viewed planting saplings by attendees at the ceremony. The Prime Minister then looked into thriving of Lin Lun tree, Lumbini Ingyin and Gantgaw trees for greening in the compound of Maravijara Buddha Park and instructed the needs on system conservation for greening the pagoda compound and thriving trees.
In the 3rd Monsoon Tree Planting ceremony, 2,520 saplings of 15 kind of wood such as gantgaw, star flower, teak and gumkino were planted as a mass activity. 24. 629 million of trees including state-owned forest plantations were established in this monsoon season, it is learnt.
