32nd SEA Games: Torch Relay Torch Relay Ceremony in Yangon

Cambodia will host the 32ndSoutheast Asian Games in May,followed by the 12thASEAN Para Games in June.

Starting March 22nd, the torch relay for the SEA Games is now travelling to all the Southeast Asian nations including Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos.

The torch flame arrived Yangon on 19th April, and the Torch Relay Ceremony was at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia to Myanmar on Friday, with the attendance of Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan.

The Torch Relay aims to convey the values of peace, friendship and solidarity of the Olympic Movement.

Secretary of State, Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia, Hor Sarun said “Cambodia held Torch relay in Myanmar. There are many participants around 1,300 participants in this Torch relay. And also we have the traditional music, traditional dances, and together and this shows that the Cambodia and Myanmar are like a brotherhood, our friendly between the two countries is our friendship. So, that we hope that Myanmar will stay with the warm welcome from Cambodia during the SEA Games. We have admission free for all the participants even locals and foreigners and also for live broadcasting free also especially for accommodation, all the athletes all the ASEAN countries doesn’t need to pay.”

Myanmar will take part in the 32nd SEA Games with the participation of 501 members including athletes, coaches and managers. 

Director General, Tun Myint Oo, Department of Sports & Physical Education said "I’ll lead Myanmar Athletes who will participate in 32nd SEA Games to Cambodia. Today’s ceremony is part of the Torch Relay tour for the SEA Games in Myanmar. The Torch flame is carrying among 11 ASEAN countries and we made it successfully. For the upcoming SEA Games, Myanmar will compete in 19 kinds of sports. "

The 32nd SEA Games will be held from the 5th to the 17th of May, while the 12th ASEAN Para Games from the 3rd to the 9th of June. Coincide with the Year of Visit Cambodia, the host country is now getting ready for the upcoming SEA Games. 

Secretary of State, Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia, Hor Sarun said “Even Cambodia is a first time to be the host of SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games but we’re proud to announce the Cambodia ready to welcome all the athletes and all the foreigners and local people to visit our ASEAN Para Games and SEA Games. Everything is ready even the accommodation, meals and also seating arrangements, we’re ready.Also this year is the Year of Visit Cambodia 2023.”

After the ceremony in Yangon, the torch relay will tour to Laos before it return to Cambodia on April 27.
