2nd anniversary of MDD: MOI UM attended and gave words of honor

The second anniversary of the Media Development Department was celebrated at the assembly hall of the Ministry of Information in Nay Pyi Taw on 6th November and attended by the Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn, permanent secretary, departmental heads and staff members.

First, a documentary video on “for the development of Media, we stand” was screened. Next, the Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn stated that the Media Development Department was established with the positive intention of supporting the growth of Myanmar’s private media sector.

The goal is to ensure that the media can function as the "Fourth Estate," effectively contributing to the country’s development efforts, under the guidance of the government. He noted that media has immense influence, shaping the daily lives of people across the world. Access to information has become an essential need for people, alongside food and shelter. In today’s world, with misinformation and fake news being spread on digital platforms, he urged everyone to work together to protect the interests of the country and the people by controlling this spread and striving to distribute accurate news.

Then, the Union Minister awarded certificate of honor to the Sepak Takraw atheles who won the fourth prize in the 2024 Union Minister’s Cup Sepak Takraw Competition and represented the MDD, staff officer who won the consolation prize for “Attractive Myanmar” Short Video and a Director who created Department Logo.

After that, the Director General Dr. Thida Tin of MDD provided the personnel with a viss of cooking oil to each and the Union Minister and departmental heads enjoyed luncheon together with the participants.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister received Mr. Atul Aneja who is a news commentator from India at the reception hall of the Ministry.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on the Myanmar-India bilateral relation and releasing true news, matters of both countries being victims of modern media influenced by West Power and the cooperation not only in media sector but also multi-sectors. The meeting was also attended by permanent secretary U Win Kyaw Aung and departmental heads and officials.
