The 27th Meeting of the Joint Sectoral Committee for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (JSC EEE) and its related meetings took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

The meeting aims to ensure the emergence of free trade area in ASEAN region and to reduce trade barriers.

It is also a platform to make coordination and discussions among the ASEAN member states in implementing the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Mutual Recognition Arrangement (EEE MRA) and ASEAN Harmonised Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulatory Regime (AHEEERR).

Director, Electrical Inspection Department, Dr. Myo Htike said “In designation for quality standard, we will follow with the norms of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The facts to be included for practicing these norms are still under discussion, and these norms will be applied in the inspection lab, recognition organizations as well as in the existing laws and procedures of the Electronic Equipment Law of our country.”

JSC EEE meetings have been held twice a year in ASEAN member states. Myanmar hosted the meeting for the second time, followed by the first one in 2014.

The meeting discussed about the completeness of data in issuing certificates for importing, manufacturing and exporting the electrical and electronic equipment through the use of Quality System Template among the ASEAN member states.

Director, Electrical Inspection Department, Dr. Myo Htike said “Through these meetings, we will have a good outcome for ASEAN member states by designating a quality system template. Based on this template, our local entrepreneurs can export the electronic equipment to other countries. The consumers will also have a chance to get access of electronic equipment that have been imported through this set standard.”

The meeting is jointly organized by the Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection under the Ministry of Industry and the ASEAN Secretariat, and will be held till the 25th of April.
