






The 2025 Special Olympics for people with intellectual disabilities was held at the Shan State Sports Ground in Taunggyi on November 29 to mark the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, under the theme “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.”
Chief Minister U Aung Aung said the event aims to improve athletes’ physical fitness, confidence and happiness, and to build friendship within the community. He highlighted the Special Olympics spirit, adding that Shan State is proud to host Myanmar’s 2025 Special Olympics.
Then, the Chair of Special Olympics Myanmar delivered opening remarks, followed by athletes reciting the sports oath. More than 200 athletes from Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Shan State and Mon State are participating in sports including running, walking, softball throw, football and Bocce during the event.
