17th ANCM: Myanmar delegation joins meeting via video conference

A delegation led by the Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung attended the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting - 17th ANCM hosted by the Philippine Navy through video conference on Wednesday. First, the Chief of the Navy of the Philippines who is the Chair of the meeting extended greetings and launched the meeting.

Then, the record of 16th ANCM was approved and then the permanent joint secretary of ANCM discussed a brief account of maritime route security in the region. Then, the ASEAN Chiefs of Staff (Navy) exchanged viewed and discussed the topic on the Synergy at Sea: Regional Cohesion for Peace and Stability.

The Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Moe Aung said that as the ASEAN region is a central strategic point for maritime trade, there are opportunities and challenges. ASEAN Centrality is very important and the different strong points of ASEAN navies must be gathered and used effectively and challenges will be overcome while building cooperation to trust.

ASEAN needs to implement the right way without external interference by standing the driving role. He discussed to promote maritime peace and stability by respecting the sovereignty of countries through cooperation. Afterwards, the 9th ASEAN Navy Young Officers’ Interaction (ANYOI) hosted by Brunei Navy, the 18th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) Plus Experts Working Group on Maritime Security and Tabletop Exercises 2023 hosted by Thai Navy, ASEAN Cadet Seminar hosted by Indonesia Navy, AESAN Cadet Sail and 10th ANYOI 2023 were conducted.

Later, the Indonesia Navy discussed the Road Map of ASEAN Navies (2024-2023) and the Philippines Navy on Alternate Conduct of ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercises (AMNEX) and ANCM Guidelines for Maritime Interaction (GMI) Workshop and Draft and approved them. They then discussed the Navy joint exercise programs that will be conducted in 2023. The schedule for the 18th ANCM to be hosted by Myanmar in 2024 was discussed and the record videos were shown.
