16th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting: Myanmar delegation joins the meeting in Laos

The opening ceremony of 16th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting was held at the National Convention Center in Vientiane city of Lao People's Democratic Republic on Thursday and a delegation led by the Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win was in attendance.

During the ceremony, the Alternate Chair Laotian Health Minister Mr. Bounfeng Phoummalaysith and Deputy General-Secretary of ASEAN Secretariat delivered the opening speeches. It was followed by the prize awarding ceremony of ASEAN Smoke Free Award.

The award was jointly presented by South East Asia Tobacco Control Alliance and ASEAN Secretariat. During the ceremony, Bagan Archeological Zone in Myanmar was awarded with bronze medal. The meeting was held under the title of “Transforming ASEAN Health Development in a New Context”.

During the discussion, Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win said that it is necessary to accelerate cooperations for prevention of Non-communicable diseases for the improvement of healthy lifestyles. He called for cooperation of all stakeholders for providing and for better future to the people. Then, the joint declaration of the 16th ASEAN Ministers Meeting was adopted
