





The Opening Ceremony of the 2025 “16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” was held at the Combined Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Office No. 23, Nay Pyi Taw on November 25.
The Chairman of Myanmar National Committee for Women and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement attended and delivered the opening remarks. At the ceremony, Union Minister Dr. Soe Win delivered the opening speech, stating that the “16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” campaign is held annually not only in Myanmar but across the world.
He noted that violence against women affects not only each woman who suffers but also causes harm, losses, and negative consequences for families, communities, and society. He highlighted that Myanmar is implementing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the Beijing Platform for Action, and the provisions and action plans under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), in line with national policies.
He added that the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is carrying out prevention, protection, response, and support measures related to violence against women in cooperation with relevant government departments and organizations.
Afterward, a video clip showcasing activities related to the elimination of violence against women was presented. This was followed by a fitness dance performance by young female athletes from the Myanmar Women’s Sports Federation. Then, the ceremony was concluded.
