More than 150 dolphins were found stranded on a beach in Australia’s Tasmania state. Authorities on Wednesday said rescue teams were trying to save the animals who had survived. The rescue operation may prove challenging, due to the remote location of the beach and the difficulty in getting equipment there.
The State wildlife officer said refloating the dolphins would be challenging, due to their weight. Officials said that, while whales commonly strand themselves on Australian beaches, the part of Tasmania in question has not seen any beaching for decades. It was the first time in 50 years they had beached in that part of Tasmania.
