11th AMMDM: MoSWRR Union Minister and officials attended

Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win is attending the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management-AMMDM and related meetings held Ha Long City of Viet Nam from 9th to 13th October.

The Union Minister and members attended the first part of ASEAN Natural Disaster Management Day celebrated with the theme of “From response to anticipatory action and resilience: ASEAN’s journey towards global leadership in disaster management”.

Consequently, the Union Minister and members attended the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management-AMMDM and related meetings together with the Ministers for Natural Disaster Management and the representatives from the ASEAN member countries.At the agenda of giving speech by the Ministers as per the countries, the Union minister Dr. Soe Win said ASEAN countries are striving to be the resilient countries.

The theme for today’s meeting: From response to anticipatory action and resilience: ASEAN’s journey towards global leadership in disaster management is welcome. Myanmar is implementing Anticipatory Action in accordance with the geographical location of the country and the country’s standard operating procedures.

Then, the Union Minister elaborate the respondence to the Cyclone Mocha hit Rakhine State of Myanmar on 14th May, 2023, preparations prior to the landfall of cyclone, responding measures and rehabilitation tasks carried out aftermath of cyclone to be better than the previous conditions by citing as a precedent.

Next, the ASEAN Secretariat and AHA Centre clarified the status of work implementation and income and expenditure of ASEAN Natural Disaster Fund.Consequently, the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management with China, Japan and Republic of Korea were held separately, discussed regarding with natural disaster management work procedures to be collaborated with ASEAN and natural disaster management joint-State as per the segment and sectors and approved. ASEAN Natural Disaster Management Committee’s 43rd Senior Officers’ meeting and related meetings were held from 9th to 12th October and attended by the Director General of Disaster Management Department and representatives and discussed the disaster management activities of Myanmar and the status to be cooperated with ASEAN.
