10th Anniversary of MWCDF: To achieve gender equality & empower all women & girls

The 10th Anniversary of Myanmar Women and Children Development Foundation (MWCDF) was observed in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.

Wife of the State Administration Council Chairman honorary patron of the MWCDF Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and honorary patrons of Myanmar Women Affairs Federation Daw Khin Thet Htay and Daw Than Than New attended the event.

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in his capacity as Chairman of the Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs Dr Soe Win said that the foundation is implementing the objective and work programs of Goal 5, “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls” out of 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals for the development of women.

As the integration in ASEAN region, the Foundation is also participating in the implementation of ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Framework- AGMSF (2021-2025) being undertaken by organizations from all sectors under the three ASEAN Community Pillars.

The Union Minister added that according to the estimated population of Myanmar as of 1st October 2022, the estimated population of Myanmar is 55.8 million.

Out of them, the number of male is 26.7 million and the number of female is 29.1 million so the number of women is over 2 million than men. He called on all women’s organizations to take effectively the women’s participation in the national development, strive for promoting empowerment of women and to work together collectively.

Later, Chairperson of the Foundation Dr Wai Wai Thar extended greetings and a video clip on the activity of the Foundation was shown. After that, the donations of well-wishers for the ceremony were recorded.

Members of the Foundations from Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw, Regions and States and officials discussed education programs on the new Organization Registration Law enacted by the SAC on 28th October 2022 and future work programs.
