“Tourism and Green Investments” :World Tourism Day Commemorative Ceremony

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism organized the World Tourism Day Commemorative Ceremony 2023 at the MICC-II in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

The event aimed to raise awareness on the importance of tourism industry in the member countries of World Tourism Organization and to know more about the benefits of social, culture, politics and economy related to the tourism. This year theme of the celebration was “Tourism and Green Investments”. 

Zeya Myo Aung ,Deputy Director ,Directorate of Hotels and Tourism said " This year theme highlights on the investments not to impact on the environment and to benefit the environment and how to make investments for the human resource development and for prosperity of the people through tourism industry."

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) was organized in 1946 and it has 159 member countries including Myanmar, six associate members, 2 observer countries and over 500 private tourism organizations. The World Tourism Day celebrations have been held on every 27 September since 1980. Myanmar, being a member of the WTO, has been organizing the World Tourism Day Celebrations since 2012 and it has been 12 years.

Prizes were presented to winners in the contests to mark World Tourism Day 2023 and the booths were displayed at the ceremony. 

Khine Yadana Htin Htin Aung ,2nd prize winner,Extempore talks said " The tourism industry is the main income of a nation and it will become a pillar. If we make the green investments more and more, our earth will be more convenient, it will support the country’s income and it can make not to impact on the environment. I highlight these facts in my talks." 

Dr. Than Zaw ,Director ,Nay Pyi Taw Council Area said " Our booth exhibits souvenirs related to tourism industry and products of Nay Pyi Taw. Over 60 items are displayed, aiming to know the people about our souvenirs and to distribute souvenirs produced in the region as the gifts when visiting other places."

Myanmar is prioritizing to the tourism industry, supporting the state’s economy. In doing so, over 600,000 international visitors arrived in Myanmar from January to July 2023 and in previous year, only over 100,000 visitors entered and it has increased by 484 percent, it is learnt.
