






Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn on Friday gave a lecture with the title ‘Role of Media’ at the Civil Service Academy (Upper Myanmar) to trainees of the University and College Teachers Special Refresher Course No. (23).
In his lecture, the Union Minister focused on a series of matters including the current development of political, economic and social conditions in the country, construction of Maravijaya Buddha image, celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of Union Day and the 75th Anniversary of Independence Day, rehabilitation after the cyclonic storm MOCHA, celebration of the 8th Anniversary of the NCA, the ministry’s response to fake news/misinformation, cooperation activities by the Ministry to meetings and events related to local and foreign news media and media relations and media development conditions.
It’s reported that this 5-week University and College Teachers Special Refresher Course No. (23) is joined by 397 teachers.
Later the day, the Union Minister visited the Printing and Publishing Enterprise in Chanmyatharzi Township and held talks with officers and staff.
After the talks, the Union Minister made inspection there and stressed that as the sample of newsprint raw materials has been sent from the Thabaung Paper Factory, tests are being carried out at the newspaper office.
If those raw material reach the 70 GSM level for school textbooks use, more school textbooks will have to be printed than now, so the necessary preparations need to be made.
The Union Minister also urged concerned officials to ensure that the curriculum books being printed for the 2024-2025 academic year are of good quality and standard.
