‘President Lee Jae-myung to attend G7 Summit

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will attend the G7 Summit in Canada starting June 15. The summit takes place less than two weeks after Lee took office on June 4. The presidential office officially confirmed his participation.

Lee aims to use the summit to restore South Korea’s diplomacy following a recent emergency martial law incident. A possible bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump is under consideration. Preparations for such a meeting are underway by the presidential office. Discussions may include South Korea-Japan or South Korea-U.S.-Japan summits. It is not yet decided if Lee will attend the NATO Summit later this month in the Netherlands.
