Renewable Energy Issue: MOU Between Department Of Research And Innovation & ASIA Air Survey

Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) under the Ministry of Education, and the Japanese company Asia Air Survey (AAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Research and Development on Renewable Energy in Yangon on Thursday.

The MoU is to enhance research, human resource development and collaboration with the international organizations concerning renewable energy.

Deputy Director General, Department of Research and Innovation, Dr. Zaw Min Naing said “Under the MoU, we will cooperate in the areas for potential surveys and feasibility study on Micro Hydropower, Biomass Power, Small wind power, Geothermal and Hot Spring Power Generation, and Large Scale Wind Power for off-shore wind farm. So, our researchers will get benefits like updated technology from Japan – it will be a help to the government’s project in energy sector.”

Energy sector plays an important role for the country and this MoU will help to promote the development of renewable energy.

Executive Vice President, Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd, Dr. Kawamura Kazuo said “We’ve learnt that Myanmar faces insufficient energy supply so our cooperation on the research and development for renewable energy in Myanmar will help to promote the development of renewable energies, to ensure energy security and sustain socio-economic development. We will also hold discussions with the Japanese government for research fund.” 

The term of MoU is 5 years from 2017 to 2020 which also covers to conduct the national renewable energy policy and legal framework.
