The 13th Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee-Union Level (JMC-U) meeting started in Yangon on Monday. State-level Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee (JMC-S) members also joined this 3-day meeting.
Geographical data by the committee, draft rules and regulations as well as draft rules and regulations for verification process are expected to be discussed, according to the Chairman of JMC- U. Budget allocation for 2018-2019 Fiscal Year, discipline, duties and responsibilities of are on the agenda.
JMC was formed with representatives of the Government and Tatmadaw, Ethnic Armed Organizations and the public.
Speaking of the public representatives who are members of JMC-L, they are facing difficulties and challenges, Vice Chairman 1 of JMC-U said.
Vice chairman 1, JMC-U, Saw Isaac Po said “Their responsibility is to monitor the ceasefire. As they have encountered the armed conflicts, they are facing difficulties and challenges and influenced by fear. So both sides have to take accountability for them to be able to take part in JMC’s verification process.”
The meeting is set to be held till Wednesday.
