New U.S. helicopters mark major change for Afghan air force

8 October 2017

Afghanistan welcomed the arrival of new U.S.-made military helicopters on Saturday. This marks the beginning of a process that will radically transform the young Afghan air force. By 2024 the U.S. plans to provide the Afghans with at least 159 Black Hawks. This includes 58 of them fitted with extra rocket pods and machine guns to provide close air support.
