State Counsellor and Union Minster for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Taro Kono made a joint press to the local and international journalists after the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw, on Friday.
Japanese Foreign Minister pointed out for strengthening cooperation between the two countries and providing more assistance by the Japanese government.
Japanese Government is providing assistance for the Yangon-Mandalay railway project, transportation, electricity and agriculture cooperation as well as investment in Thilawa SEZ.
The visiting Foreign Minister said that Japan is planning provide 20 million US dollars for the women vocational training in Rakhine State. He stressed that Japan welcomed the Myanmar Government’s development endeavours in Rakhine State, and will assist in these projects.
Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono said “Japan plans to provide to about 3 million USD in Rakhine State and also plan to assist 20 million USD for the vocational training for the women in Rakhine State with the approve of the parliament. Education and Health sectors for the local are the first priority and Japan welcomes the Myanmar government implementation tasks for Rakhine state development. Japan also assists emergency and long term assistance for Myanmar, and plans to make road upgrading and electricity distribution. Japan will make effort for poverty alleviation in Rakhine state.”
The Foreign Minister added that the Japanese government and NGOs are making effort to build 100 schools in Rakhine State. At present, Japan Private companies are building 28 mobile phone towers in Rakhine state to have better communication network in the area.
State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi expressed thanks for Japan’ assistance saying that Japan is a good friendship for Myanmar.
She also pointed out that the international community is paying special attention on Rakhine State issue. She said the government is making effort for development of Rakhine State as well as for ensuring peace and stability in the area.
State Counsellor, H.E. Aung San Suu Kyi said “We are making long term goals for the development of Rakhine state. Long term plan is important and we need to have more friendship and understanding among the different community. We always listen to the criticism and study them what is right and what is wrong. We are also starting investigation in the cases of killing in Rakhine State. It shows our efforts for ensuring the rules of law and peace and stability in Rakhine State. We are now preparing to receive the people who fled to Bangladesh.”
The Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister is scheduled to visit Rakhine State on Saturday.
