Eighth Australian lawmaker falls in citizenship crisis

14 November 2017

An Australian senator, Jacqui Lambie, has resigned today as the citizenship crisis has deepened in the country. Lambie is an independent senator for the island state of Tasmania. She confirmed that she is a dual UK citizen. Lambie became the eighth lawmaker to be embroiled in this crisis. Seven other lawmakers have already been forcibly ejected from parliament or have voluntarily resigned in recent weeks because they were found to be dual citizens. Under Australia's constitution, dual citizenship is not allowed for members of parliament.
