Economic Ties: Indonesia-Myanmar Business Matching

Indonesia and Myanmar businessmen held an informal discussion in Yangon on Friday. It aims to to explore business opportunities and cooperation between the two communities.

Total trades between the two countries have reached about 730 million USD in 2016. The bilateral trade value has risen up to 35 % until July this year. 

33 Indonesian companies from various industries participated in this business matching.

The Indonesian Ambassador expressed his hope to receive more investments from Myanmar in Indonesia in the future.

Ambassador, Indonesian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, H.E. Sebastianus Sumarsono said “Myanmar is really very perspective target for business of investment. Actually from the Myanmar businessmen invest in Indonesia is very few. So, that’s why, we hope now beside the Indonesia businessmen who interest to business in here may be the next. Of course, Myanmar is also a few options to business in Indonesia through our cooperation and may be the next Myanmar government is also can invest in My country...”

Indonesia and Myanmar Diplomatic relations have been exist since 1949.

The business matching will further boost economic relations between both countries and will also create mutual understanding among businessmen and stakeholders.

Vice-President, UMFCCI, Dr. Maung Maung Lay said “This business matching will make more connection and exchange with Myanmar and Indonesia businessmen. Both countries looking forward to boost business cooperation. This is introduction of the products and investment in Myanmar. Our target is one billion USD export and import for both two countries. But, still need to catch up.”

The Indonesia investment in Myanmar is over 200 million USD/ Main commodities exported to Myanmar are palm oil, paper, petroleum oil and coal.
