Brush fire breaks out at Los Angeles' Griffith Park

11 July 2018

A brush fire in the hills in Los Angeles on Tuesday (July 10) prompted an evacuation of the Griffith Park Observatory. The fire consumed about 25 acres of drought-parched grass in the area, and has been 80 percent contained, the city fire department said in a tweet.

The flames posed no immediate threat to the historic observatory building, situated on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood, or to any nearby homes, according to a city fire department spokesman. No injuries were reported from the fire.
