The city of Yangon celebrated the 71st Anniversary of Union Day, hoisting and saluting the state flag at Mahabundula Park on Monday morning.
Yangon Region Chief Minister read out the message on the occasion of the 71st Anniversary of the Union Day which was sent by President U Htin Kyaw. The message of the president stated that the government is holding the 21st century Panglong conference to cease the country’s internal affairs and negotiation with the ethnic armed organizations to establish the federal Union. High ranking officials from Yangon Region government, parliament office, ministers and the public joined this commemoration.
Member of Parliament, Nay Lin Aung said “The Union Day represents the unity of all national races - it's very important for the peace and development of the country. We all must keep up the Union spirit.”
Union Day is a public holiday to commemorate the passage of the Panglong Agreement in 1947 - the 12th of February that proved and highlighted the unity of all national races was recognized as “The Union Day”.
Secretary, YCDC, Than Myint Aung said “Union Day means national races unity. The government has been making efforts for peace by holding the Panglong conference.”
The Union Day is important for all national races to remember the strength of unity and the value of independence and sovereignty.
Attendee, Chan Myae Nay Chi said “I’m a Kachin national. There are internal conflicts in our country – I’m desperate for peace and harmony.”
The government keeps toward implementing internal peace with ethnic unities and leading Federal Union through holding the 21st century Panglong conference.
